There are actually more kinds of maps than one could think. Nowadays you can find all maps you need online. Whether you interested in the location of some country or town, or going to an unfamiliar place, or need to find the optimal itinerary to your destination – a great variety of maps is always there to assist you.

World Maps

World map shows all the countries, their location, shape, size and some major cities within each country if the map is large enough. There are also breakdowns of the world map into continents to get a more detailed view. Maps of the world are often either physical or political. The major purpose of a political map is to show territorial borders; the purpose of a physical map is to show geographical features such as mountains, soil type or land use.

City Maps

These detailed maps include streets directions, names of streets, places of interest, historical places, etc. City maps are especially helpful for independent travelers. When you come to a foreign country, it may not always be convenient to ask native citizens for help because of language barrier, and you will just need to look into your city map to know exactly where to go. Even in your native country you can't know all the cities as good as the city where you live, so city maps very often come in handy.

Road Maps

These maps are probably the most widely used in the USA, particularly by travelers that do a lot of vacationing by car. Road maps are very useful when we are going to travel across the country or from one city to another.

Some Other Types of Maps

There are climate maps for almost any area of the world. Climate maps show general information about climate and precipitation. There are also economic maps that show the natural resources most common to an area and the relative economic status of an area. Political maps show a political affiliation typical for a particular region. Geological maps show the physical surface, subsurface structures, etc.
