Department of Education was established in 1980. Its aim is to ensure equal access to education and to promote educational excellence throughout the nation. The Department of Education has the staff of 4,500 employees that is dedicated to:

• Collecting data on America's schools
• Focusing national attention on key educational problems
• Ensuring equal access to education and prohibiting discrimination

Grants for Education

Most non-profit organizations and foundations have scholarships for prospective college students. Scholarship sourcing may come from labor unions, volunteer organizations, U.S. Governments, local chapters of professional societies, charity organizations, church, school-based endowments, university grands, etc. You may also find other sources of information on scholarships at a library, in newspapers, etc.

The U.S. government offers various financial aid packages and options – Federal Pell grants, Federal SEOG grants, SSIG grants, etc. To apply for any of these options, a student should file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, also known as FAFSA.
